Vietnam pushes ahead with Ô Môn and Quảng Trạch power plant projects
Vietnam’s state‑owned Petrovietnam reported that construction of the Ô Môn 3 and Ô Môn 4 power plants is proceeding on schedule. Design work for Ô Môn 4 has passed technical appraisal, procurement and foundation works are underway, and contractor selection is being accelerated in line with the project timeline. The agency is coordinating with JICA and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to complete pending approvals.
Separately, the Quảng Trạch 1 thermal power plant, overseen by EVN, has reached over 99% overall progress. The first furnace is set to be fired on 13 June 2026, with commercial operation of the second generating unit targeted for October 2026. The 1,403 MW facility, funded at roughly VND 42 trillion, is moving into final testing phases, including equipment commissioning and fuel‑handling infrastructure completion.
