Vietnam pushes building battery storage and broader energy security measures

Vietnam is promoting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for commercial buildings such as offices, malls, hotels and hospitals. By storing electricity from off‑peak grid supply or rooftop solar and releasing it during peak periods, BESS can lower operating costs, reduce reliance on the grid and provide a stable power source. The technology typically uses lithium‑ion or lithium‑iron‑phosphate (LiFePO₄) batteries and integrates smart energy‑management platforms to monitor load, charge cycles and temperature.

At the same time, the Vietnamese government is expanding its energy‑security agenda in response to global fuel‑price volatility and geopolitical risks. A dedicated task force has been created, tax rates on gasoline and diesel have been adjusted, and measures to secure supply chains and market stability are being implemented. Officials stress that reliable, affordable energy is now a core element of national security and economic resilience.
