Vietnam pushes new foreign information approach and cyber‑security safeguards
Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is redefining the boundary between domestic and foreign information, arguing that a flexible, proactive mindset is needed to shape international perception. Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang highlighted the shift at the ASEAN Future Forum 2026 press conference, emphasizing that Vietnam must not only convey its own messages but also address topics that the world cares about.
On Vietnam Cyber Security Day, officials stressed that protecting citizens in the digital realm is as critical as defending physical infrastructure. The National Cyber Security Association reported an estimated 552,000 cyber attacks in 2025, with more than half of agencies experiencing damage. The government links cyber‑security to national sovereignty and cites recent Party resolutions that designate cyberspace as a strategic battlefield requiring active defence.
