Vietnam pushes solar rooftop and EV infrastructure to attract FDI

The Vietnamese government’s 2026 roadmap ties electric‑vehicle charging with rooftop solar, seeking an integrated energy ecosystem where rooftops, streets and citizens all contribute to green power. The plan expands beyond merely building charging stations or promoting electric cars; it couples those efforts with policies that encourage solar generation on building roofs and smart grid management.

Following Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc’s Directive 10, rooftop solar has taken off in industrial zones, notably the DEEP C park in Hải Phong. Between April and June 2024, the park’s rooftop‑solar capacity grew by more than 70 %, reaching about 21 MWp of operating capacity. Companies such as Flat Vietnam (≈30 MWp), Bridgestone (≈18.1 MWp) and Pegatron (≈8 MWp) are installing projects, while a further 8 large firms have smaller installations. The park aims for roughly 64 MWp by 2030, positioning renewable power as a competitive advantage for foreign investors.

Officials say the policy removes earlier uncertainties, turning green electricity into a decisive factor for multinational investors evaluating land rent, port proximity and power reliability in Vietnam’s industrial zones.
