Vietnam pushes soldier identification and sustainable development reforms
Vietnam has undertaken a series of initiatives across heritage, public health and governance. Teams recovered and repatriated the remains of 27 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers from Cambodia and handed over the mortal remains of 15 Indian tourists killed in a Phu Quoc speedboat capsize to Indian authorities. Using next‑generation sequencing, Vietnam is building a national DNA database to identify unknown fallen soldiers and match relatives up to the fifth generation.
The government also launched major infrastructure and digital reforms. Ho Chi Minh City is rehabilitating canals to improve drainage, reduce flooding and create green public spaces. A 100‑day drive aims to cut digital bottlenecks, expand data‑driven governance and strengthen cybersecurity. UNICEF highlighted that few Vietnamese and Asian firms report impacts on children in sustainability reports. Meanwhile, experts marked 40 years of Doi Moi reforms, emphasizing a shift toward a green, digital economy, carbon‑neutral goals for 2050 and legal reforms to support sustainable development.
