Vietnam pushes to upgrade Canada partnership and attract US investment

On July 28, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung met Canadian Ambassador James Nickel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He praised Nickel’s efforts in promoting the Vietnam‑Canada Comprehensive Partnership and said Vietnam is ready to upgrade the framework, expanding cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, essential minerals, green and nuclear energy, security, defence, education and high‑skill talent exchange. The minister called for a concrete roadmap and increased high‑level visits to deepen ties.

Later, Vice‑Premier Hồ Quốc Dũng received former U.S. Ambassador Marc Knapper, who now serves as an adviser and founder of KGA. The vice‑premier thanked Knapper for his past work and urged him to continue supporting U.S. businesses and investors in Vietnam. He outlined a five‑year development strategy aiming for double‑digit economic growth from 2026, anchored by science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and institutional reform. Knapper was also asked to assist Vietnam’s DNA‑testing effort to identify missing war‑time personnel.
