Vietnam railways announce ticket discounts for Lunar New Year and tourism routes

Vietnam's railway sector has announced several discount programs to stimulate travel and tourism. For the 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) period, passengers booking long-distance trips (over 900km) at least 10 days in advance can receive discounts ranging from 5% to 20% depending on the specific train number and direction.

Specific incentives include 10% to 20% discounts for students and 5% off for round-trip tickets. Group bookings of 11 or more people are eligible for discounts between 2% and 12%. Standard social policy discounts for the elderly, disabled, and war invalids remain applicable, though these cannot be combined with other offers.

In a separate initiative to boost off-season tourism, the Hue - Tho Loc (Quang Tri) train route (HQ1/HQ2) will see a 40% price reduction for all seat types through the end of 2026. This route connects the heritage sites of Hue and Phong Nha - Ke Bang. Following the 40% reduction, seats are priced at 252,000 VND and 24-seat VIP compartments at 456,000 VND per trip. Round-trip passengers on this route receive an additional 10% discount on the return leg.
