Vietnam Railways opens sale of 300,000 Lunar New Year 2027 tickets

Vietnam's railway industry has officially launched the sale of approximately 300,000 train tickets for the 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday. The peak transport period will run from January 23 to February 25, 2027, utilizing 57 trains and over 800 carriages to meet high travel demand.

To encourage travel, the railway sector is implementing various discount programs. Passengers booking early or purchasing round-trip tickets can save between 3% and 20%. Specific groups, including students (10-20% discount), the elderly, children, and social policy beneficiaries, are also eligible for specialized rates. For long-distance trips exceeding 900 km, booking at least 10 days in advance can yield discounts of 5% to 20%.

Additionally, the industry has introduced promotional pricing for specific routes through Central Vietnam during September 2026, with sleeper berth discounts reaching up to 40% on certain SE train routes. While ticket prices for the Tet period have seen a slight increase of 4-8% compared to the previous year, the availability of online booking channels and electronic payment apps has led to a shift away from traditional in-person purchases at stations like Saigon Station.
