Vietnam Railways cuts passenger fares by 10% for summer travel

Vietnam Railways announced a 10% reduction in ticket prices for many long‑distance and regional trains from 1 July to 16 August 2026. The discount applies to SE‑marked north‑south services, with savings of VND 110,000‑280,000 per ticket, and to several south‑central routes such as Saigon‑Nha Trang (VND 70,000‑160,000) and Hanoi‑Vinh (VND 50,000‑80,000). The move follows a domestic decline in fuel prices and aims to stimulate travel during the summer holiday peak.

Other transport operators are also adjusting fares. Inter‑province bus companies in the south have lowered prices by up to 5% after fuel costs fell, while airlines report fare cuts of 20‑30% on selected domestic routes. Despite lower fuel prices, logistics firms say freight rates and container costs remain high, with some shipping rates to the United States nearly tripling since May, pressuring exporters.

Government officials note that reduced fuel prices should lead to broader price reviews across the transport sector, but structural costs in shipping and road logistics limit the extent of fare reductions.
