Vietnam Railways increases Tet ticket refund fees to prevent speculation

Vietnam's railway sector is implementing stricter regulations and higher refund fees for the 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) peak season to prevent ticket speculation. During the high-demand period, which spans from the 22nd day of the 12th lunar month to the 12th day of the 1st lunar month, ticket refund fees will increase to 30%.

Specific rules for the peak period include requirements that individual passengers must refund tickets at least 24 hours before departure, while group tickets must be refunded at least 48 hours in advance. Outside of these peak dates, refund fees will range from 10% to 20% depending on the timing, with no refunds permitted if the departure is less than four hours away.

To further curb speculation, the railway company is limiting ticket purchases to a maximum of 10 tickets per passenger per direction, applicable to both online and direct sales. For ticket exchanges, individual passengers must provide at least 24 hours' notice to incur a 5% fee, while group tickets are not eligible for exchanges.
