Vietnam lifts public‑sector base pay to 2.53 million VND on July 1 2026

The Vietnamese government approved Decree 161/2026, raising the public‑sector base salary to 2,530,000 VND per month effective 1 July 2026. The increase applies to civil servants, teachers, doctors and other public‑sector workers and translates to roughly an 8 % rise in their monthly earnings, with salaries calculated as the base amount multiplied by the applicable salary coefficient.

Additional decrees set related adjustments: Decree 162/2026 boosts pensions and social‑insurance benefits by 8 % and provides extra increments for lower‑paid retirees (an additional 300,000 VND or a raise to 3.8 million VND). New allowance rules raise teaching supplements up to 80 % for certain schools and increase surgical allowances for doctors to between 100,000 VND and 560,000 VND per operation. The reforms are part of a broader package of policy changes taking effect on 1 July 2026, including revised personal‑income‑tax thresholds and the rollout of electronic labor contracts.
