Vietnam ramps up data protection and land record cleaning efforts

Vietnamese police warned citizens not to send personal identification images through messaging apps such as Zalo or Messenger, citing cases where fraudsters used such photos to open bank accounts, obtain loans or impersonate officials. The warning follows a reported loss of 120 million VND by a garment business owner who was deceived by impostors posing as military personnel via Zalo.

In parallel, Hanoi authorities reported that only about 37‑38 % of the city’s 4.19 million land parcels meet the “accurate‑complete‑clean‑live” criteria. Over 2.3 million parcels have been entered into the land‑record database, but more than 1.37 million still require enrichment, cleaning and standardisation. Officials emphasized the large remaining workload and have set up dedicated task forces to accelerate data verification, mapping and integration with the national population database.
