Vietnam ramps up flood‑control projects and land‑policy reforms

Provincial authorities in Thanh Hóa are intensifying preparation for heavy rains, floods and landslides by completing village‑relocation plans, training water‑craft operators and coordinating disaster‑response measures ahead of the 2026 monsoon season.

In Bac Ninh, the 145 billion‑dong (≈ US$6.2 million) drainage tunnel project at Văn Thai is being expedited to protect more than 4,500 hectares of agricultural, industrial and residential land. Workers are operating in three‑shift schedules and starting work at 5 a.m. to avoid the peak heat, with the aim of completing the critical flood‑control structures by the end of June and fully commissioning the system by year‑end.

The Party’s Central Committee has ordered the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and related agencies to draft amendments to the national land‑use plan (2021‑2030, vision to 2050) and propose changes to the Land Law. The draft will be submitted to the third Central Committee meeting for review, with a deadline to finalize adjustments by 1 July 2026. These measures aim to improve land‑management efficiency, prevent policy abuse and strengthen resilience against extreme weather events.
