Vietnam reaffirms two‑digit GDP growth target amid trade pressures

Vietnam’s leadership has reiterated its ambition to achieve a two‑digit annual increase in GDP. Party General Secretary To Lâm and senior officials such as Trịnh Văn Quyết and Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Thị Thanh Trà stress that rapid growth remains a core political goal, citing past Asian successes while warning that speed alone does not guarantee sustainable development.

The government highlighted recent achievements – a 99.7 % voter turnout in the latest parliamentary elections, stable macro‑economic fundamentals and controlled inflation – and pointed to innovation, digital transformation and science‑technology as new growth drivers. At the same time, the United States has imposed a 12.5 % tariff on Vietnamese goods and raised concerns over forced labour and intellectual‑property standards, underscoring the tightening of international trade conditions that Vietnam must navigate.

Officials called on state‑run media to continue promoting the policy agenda and fostering public consensus as the country pursues its high‑growth strategy despite external challenges.
