Vietnam recovers 245 sets of martyr remains at Le Thi Rieng Park

Efforts to locate and recover the remains of fallen soldiers are intensifying in Vietnam through a national campaign. In Ho Chi Minh City, search teams have recovered 245 sets of martyr remains from Le Thi Rieng Park. This total includes 217 individual remains and 28 remains located across seven mass grave sites.

The recovery process at the park, formerly the Do Thanh and Chi Hoa cemeteries, involved synthesizing historical battlefield photographs, satellite imagery, and eyewitness accounts to navigate the transformed urban landscape. These findings are being used for DNA identification processes.

Supporting these efforts is a national information hotline that has seen a surge in activity, receiving nearly 4,000 calls per day. The hotline and dedicated centers serve as hubs for families, veterans, and citizens to provide crucial clues, such as old photographs, letters, or military documents, to assist in identifying the deceased and bringing them home.
