Vietnam regions develop sustainable livelihoods under forest canopies

Various regions in Vietnam are implementing sustainable economic models focused on forest conservation and biodiversity. In Da Nang, residents in the western mountainous areas are developing “green” livelihoods under the forest canopy. Through the Hoa Bac Ecological Agriculture and Community Tourism Cooperative, locals are combining community-based tourism with ecological agriculture and the preservation of Co Tu ethnic culture to protect headwater forests and water sources.

In Lao Cai, authorities are promoting the cultivation of indigenous medicinal plants beneath forest canopies. This strategy aims to transition from spontaneous, destructive harvesting to organized cultivation. By integrating medicinal plant farming with forest protection, the initiative seeks to preserve precious genetic resources, prevent soil erosion, and provide stable livelihoods for local communities while adapting to climate change.
