Vietnam relocates 140 families from aging Quang Trung apartments in Nghệ An for redevelopment

Around 140 households in the Quang Trung apartment complex (Thành Vinh ward, Nghệ An province) have been moved to temporary housing as the two deteriorated blocks, C5 and C6, were rated the highest danger level (Category D). Local authorities offered each household VND 5 million for moving costs and a further VND 5 million per month for six months of rental support.

The relocation is part of a larger redevelopment plan that will replace the old structures with eight new 22‑storey towers, a shopping centre, a market and upgraded infrastructure on a 72,000 m² site. The province has already demolished 17 of its 23 old apartment blocks built between 1976‑1982, aiming to improve safety and urban appearance.

Officials emphasized the rapid move to protect residents ahead of the upcoming rainy season and to keep the reconstruction schedule on track.
