Vietnam economy shows strong growth through August 2026

Vietnam's economy maintained a positive trend through the first eight months of 2026, characterized by record levels of foreign direct investment (FDI) and robust trade activity. Total import-export turnover reached 770.14 billion USD, a 28.7% increase year-on-year. Registered FDI stood at approximately 40.63 billion USD, up 55.4%, while disbursed FDI reached 17.25 billion USD, marking the highest eight-month level in five years.

The manufacturing sector showed continued strength, with the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rising to 53.3 points in August, marking the 14th consecutive month above the 50-point threshold. This growth was driven by increased output and new orders. Additionally, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose 11.9% during the first eight months of the year.

Despite these indicators, economic experts emphasize the need for accelerated growth and breakthroughs in the final months of the year to meet 2026 targets. State budget revenue reached 80.2% of the annual forecast, and retail sales of goods and consumer services grew by 13.3% during the same eight-month period.
