Ho Chi Minh City Police dismantle kidney trafficking ring

Ho Chi Minh City Police have dismantled an organ trafficking ring, resulting in the prosecution of 11 defendants for the illegal sale of human body parts. The investigation, which began in July 2026, identified Phạm Đỗ Đăng Khoa, Phạm Thị Mỹ Hà, and Cao Thị Dự as the primary organizers of the operation.

The criminal group targeted individuals in need of kidney transplants and those in difficult economic circumstances. They utilized social media groups dedicated to organ donation to find clients and connect parties. The ring charged between 1.4 billion and 1.5 billion VND per kidney transplant case.

To maximize profits, the group negotiated lower prices with sellers than what was charged to recipients, pocketing the difference. Brokers who successfully facilitated a transaction could earn 50 million VND, while those assisting with medical examinations and paperwork received 10 million VND per successful case. To evade detection, the group instructed participants to provide false information to medical staff regarding their relationships and motives for donation.
