Vietnam reports rise in tuberculosis and Influenza A cases
Medical professionals in Vietnam are reporting significant increases in respiratory infections, specifically tuberculosis and Influenza A, among younger populations.
At Hospital 19-8, the Department of Respiratory Medicine has treated hundreds of new tuberculosis cases. Many patients are young adults who delayed medical consultation despite coughing for three to four months. This delay has resulted in severe lung damage and increased the risk of community transmission. Doctors warn that symptoms such as a cough lasting over two weeks, afternoon fevers, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss should not be ignored.
Simultaneously, Vinh Phuc General Hospital has observed a sharp rise in Influenza A cases among children. Pediatric inpatient admissions have increased from approximately 5–10 cases per week to an average of 8–12 cases per day. While most children recover, medical staff warn of potential complications like pneumonia or respiratory failure. Parents are advised to monitor for emergency signs such as difficulty breathing, seizures, or dehydration, and to avoid self-medicating with antibiotics.
