Vietnam returns wartime records and continues search for soldier remains
In Lao Cai, Vietnam, the Department of Home Affairs held a ceremony to return historical documents and personal memorabilia to seven officials and their families. These records, which include party cards, medals, and diaries, belong to personnel who served in the South or were sent North for work and medical care between 1965 and 1975. Of the 105 files received from the National Archives Center III, 89 have been successfully returned, while 16 remain unassigned due to incomplete contact information.
Separately, in Tay Ninh, Vietnam, authorities organized a deployment ceremony for teams tasked with searching for and exhuming the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in Cambodia. Over the past 25 years, Military Region 7 forces have exhumed more than 12,000 remains. For the 2026-2027 dry season, search teams aim to investigate 185 pieces of information regarding 761 martyr graves.
