Vietnam to install highway markings for safety distance enforcement
The Vietnam Road Administration is coordinating with the Traffic Police Department to identify specific highway sections where administrative penalties for failing to maintain safe following distances will be enforced. Following directives from Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, authorities plan to install standardized road markings and signage—indicating distances of 0, 50, and 100 meters—to help drivers clearly identify regulated zones.
Currently, enforcement is being carried out at specific points on the Phap Van - Cau Giẽ - Cao Bồ - Mai Sơn - National Highway 45 - Nghi Son expressway, specifically at Km219 and Km326. For enforcement to be valid, these locations must feature standardized signage, distance markings, and electronic surveillance systems to provide digital evidence of violations.
In addition to physical infrastructure, the administration is proposing updates to driver training curricula to include safe distance scenarios. Plans are also underway to research the use of electronic signage and other digital platforms to provide real-time distance guidance, with implementation targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026.
