Vietnam seeks EAEU market access for textiles and seafood

During a state visit to the Russian Federation, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Lê Mạnh Hùng met with Andrey Slevnev, the Minister in charge of trade for the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The meeting focused on bilateral cooperation and future trade directions.

Minister Hùng highlighted the positive results of recent economic and trade cooperation. He noted that Vietnam and the EAEU have completed the exchange of statistical data regarding preferential imports under their Free Trade Agreement for the 2017-2025 period. This data serves as a foundation for evaluating the agreement's implementation and addressing remaining issues.

To further strengthen ties, Minister Hùng requested that the EAEU consider removing certain trade barriers, specifically the threshold defense measures currently applied to Vietnamese textile products. Additionally, he called for the opening of the Russian market to Vietnamese seafood products. In response, Minister Slevnev stated that the Union would review these proposals while also discussing measures to ensure trade balance between the two parties.
