Vietnam trade expansion and market access efforts
Overview
Vietnam is expanding its trade footprint across diverse markets, particularly in textiles and agricultural goods. In Southeast Asia, bilateral trade between Vietnam and Cambodia reached nearly $8.67 billion in the first eight months of 2026, an 8.4% increase from the previous year. This growth was supported by a 13.8% rise in Vietnamese exports to Cambodia, driven by surges in fruit, vegetable, and coffee exports.
Simultaneously, Vietnam is pursuing market access in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). During a state visit to Russia, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Lê Mạnh Hùng requested the removal of trade barriers on Vietnamese textiles and called for the opening of the Russian market to Vietnamese seafood. EAEU officials indicated they would review these proposals to ensure trade balance.
