Vietnam seeks to boost FDI participation in stock market
Authorities and financial experts in Vietnam are encouraging Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) enterprises to participate more actively in the domestic stock market. At a recent workshop titled ‘A Listing Roadmap for FDI Enterprises in Vietnam’, officials highlighted a significant gap between the economic contribution of FDI firms and their presence on the capital market.
Despite FDI enterprises accounting for over three-quarters of Vietnam's export turnover and investing approximately $27.6 billion last year, only 10 FDI companies are currently listed on the stock market, representing about 0.15% of the market value. Notably, no new FDI enterprises have listed on the market since 2017.
Hoang Van Thu, Vice Chairman of the State Securities Commission, stated that the regulator aims to encourage FDI companies with long-term business strategies to access the stock market through IPOs and listings. This initiative is intended to enhance the quality of Vietnam's capital market, helping to meet the massive demand for medium- and long-term capital required for national economic growth through 2030.
