Vietnam tourism surges during National Day holiday
Vietnam's tourism sector experienced a significant surge during the five-day National Day holiday from August 29 to September 2, 2026. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism estimated that the country welcomed approximately 6.5 million visitors, representing an 18.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Major urban and coastal hubs saw substantial activity. Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 1.71 million visitors, generating an estimated 4,900 billion VND in revenue. Other high-performing regions included Khanh Hoa with 1.25 million visitors, Hanoi with over 904,000, and Da Nang, which saw a 37% increase in visitors. Ninh Binh also recorded a notable 84.1% growth.
International tourism showed positive momentum, particularly in destinations like Da Nang, Ninh Binh, and Khanh Hoa. This trend is viewed as a promising indicator for inbound travel during the upcoming peak season starting in October. Travelers increasingly favored flexible, self-planned itineraries, focusing on nature, beaches, and cultural experiences. Local authorities and businesses supported the influx through various cultural festivals, sporting events, and promotional offers to ensure service quality and safety.
