Vietnam tourism and aviation surge during National Day

Overview

Vietnam’s National Day holiday, spanning August 29 to September 2, 2026, drove a massive surge in tourism and economic activity. The National Tourism Administration estimated that the country welcomed approximately 6.5 million visitors, representing an 18.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Major urban and coastal hubs reported high visitor volumes and significant revenue. Ho Chi Minh City emerged as a leading economic driver, hosting approximately 1.71 million visitors and generating an estimated 4.9 trillion VND. Da Nang reported over 850,000 visitors and 3,326 billion VND in revenue, seeing a 37% increase in visitor numbers. In the north, Quang Ninh recorded 568,000 visitors and 1.8 trillion VND, while Quang Ngai saw a 39% increase in tourism revenue. Other high-performing regions included Khanh Hoa, which saw 1.25 million visitors, and Hanoi, which welcomed over 904,000. Ninh Binh also recorded notable growth of 84.1%, hosting nearly 500,000 visitors.

Regional activity extended to Nghệ An province, which welcomed nearly 270,000 visitors during the holiday. Key destinations in the province included Cửa Lò beach, Mường Thanh Green Land Diễn Lâm, and the Kim Liên Special National Relic Site, where tens of thousands visited the Ho Chi Minh memorial. Nghệ An’s total tourism revenue for the period is estimated at approximately 538 billion VND. Authorities noted that security and order were maintained across tourist sites to ensure visitor safety. The positive momentum in international tourism is viewed as a promising indicator for inbound travel during the upcoming peak season starting in October. Supporting this surge, the aviation sector saw significant growth.
