Vietnam sees rise in vehicle attacks: stone throws on highways and wheel thefts

Two separate incidents of stone projectiles striking cars on Vietnamese highways were reported in early August. On the Phan Thiết‑Dầu Giây highway a driver’s windshield was punctured by a stone thrown from a pedestrian bridge, while a similar attack on the Hanoi‑Hai Phong highway on 30 July shattered a windshield and damaged a dash‑cam. Police have summoned a 32‑year‑old man suspected of throwing the stone on the latter route and are investigating both cases amid growing safety concerns for high‑speed traffic.

In a different crime, a parked car in the Thanh Ha urban area of Hanoi was found the next morning with both wheels removed and the chassis propped up with bricks. Authorities linked the theft to a pattern of wheel‑theft offenses previously attributed to 23‑year‑old Đoàn Ngọc Khánh, who had been arrested after a series of similar crimes across several provinces. The investigation continues to determine whether the recent theft is part of the same criminal network.
