Vietnam sees rising FDI and credit growth in manufacturing sectors
Vietnam is experiencing significant growth in credit and foreign direct investment (FDI) focused on manufacturing and supply chains. In the Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai regions, total credit reached nearly 6.4 quadrillion VND by late August 2026, with a strong emphasis on processing, manufacturing, and logistics. Specifically, credit for supporting industries in Dong Nai saw substantial growth, with 14 new projects in the first half of 2026 accounting for nearly 66% of new registered FDI in the province.
In Ho Chi Minh City, industrial zones attracted over 5.57 billion USD in the first nine months of 2026, including 4.2 billion USD in FDI. While Vietnam continues to gain market share in the shift of manufacturing away from China, competition from Indonesia and Thailand is intensifying. Experts note that Vietnam's traditional advantage of low labor costs is narrowing, necessitating a shift toward attracting high-quality investment. To maintain competitiveness, the country must improve infrastructure, support industries, and enhance labor productivity through better connections between businesses and educational institutions to provide high-quality human resources for high-tech sectors.
