Vietnam sees severe landslides in Lào Cai and Cà Mau, dozens of homes destroyed

Heavy rain in northern Vietnam's Lào Cai province triggered a landslide on July 17 that buried a house in the village of Hú Trù Lềnh and forced 46 households to evacuate. Most families lost almost all of their belongings, and several homes were reduced to rubble. Local officials and teachers delivered food and essential supplies on foot because roads were blocked by debris, and military units were mobilised to assist the affected community.

In the southern province of Cà Mau, a series of landslides along the Cửa Lớn River and other waterways have collapsed three houses into the river and cut a 30‑metre stretch of rural road. The province has recorded more than 86 landslide events since the start of the year, affecting over 80 homes and causing estimated damages of about 500 million VND. Provincial authorities have dispatched rescue teams, relocated valuables, and ordered a review of high‑risk zones to prevent further incidents.
