Vietnam self-drive car rental prices surge ahead of September 2 holiday

The self-drive car rental market in Vietnam is experiencing a surge in demand and price fluctuations ahead of the September 2 national holiday. In Ho Chi Minh City, rental prices for many vehicle models have increased by hundreds of thousands of dong compared to regular days.

Seven-seater SUVs and MPVs are seeing the most significant price hikes, typically ranging from 20% to 30% higher than standard rates. For example, the Toyota Fortuner, which usually rents for 950,000 to 1.1 million VND per day, is priced between 1.4 and 1.6 million VND during the holiday. Similarly, the Toyota Innova and Mitsubishi Xpander have seen notable increases. Electric vehicle prices are also rising, with the VinFast VF 5 and VinFast Limo Green seeing higher daily rates during the peak period.

In addition to price increases, rental conditions have become stricter, with many providers requiring a minimum rental period of at least two days.

Technological advancements are also reshaping the industry. Digital platforms like BonbonCar allow customers to book vehicles, manage documentation, and arrange airport deliveries entirely through mobile applications. These services offer features such as electronic handover protocols via smartphone photos and GPS tracking to ensure vehicle security and location monitoring.
