Vietnam Sets 2026-2030 Goals for Digital Tech Industry and Circular Economy
The Vietnamese government approved Decision No. 840/QĐ‑TTg on 13 May 2026, launching a Digital Technology Industry Development Programme for 2026‑2030 with a vision to 2045. The plan aims to transform the sector into a modern, high‑competitiveness engine, foster large strategic tech firms, master core and strategic technologies, boost two‑digit economic growth, and position Vietnam as a regional hub in the global digital value chain under the "Make in Vietnam" brand.
Separately, Decision No. 540/QĐ‑TTg endorsed a programme to develop science and technology for a circular economy in agriculture through 2030. It emphasizes green, circular practices such as converting waste to energy, producing organic fertilizer, and reducing chemical inputs, seeking both economic efficiency and environmental protection. Officials note challenges including outdated recycling technology, high upfront investment, and insufficient policy incentives, but view circular economy as essential for sustaining competitiveness in global markets.
