Vietnam implements new maritime and national security strategies
Vietnam is implementing several major strategic resolutions to reshape its national development. On July 28, 2026, the 14th Party Central Committee issued Resolution No. 20-NQ/TW, which aims to transform the country into a strong maritime nation. This resolution marks a shift from simple maritime resource exploitation toward modern maritime governance, emphasizing integrated maritime space for offshore wind, industrial aquaculture, and logistics.
In the National Assembly, representatives are debating the inclusion of coastal land reclamation projects into the draft Urban Development Law. These projects are viewed as potential new economic growth poles that could attract strategic investment, provided they adhere to strict environmental, defense, and climate change adaptation standards.
Additionally, General Secretary and State President To Lam signed Resolution No. 22-NQ/TW regarding the National Security Strategy. Complementing these security and maritime goals, the government has set environmental targets to ensure the green economy contributes 10% to the national GDP by 2030.
