Vietnam shifts toward preventive healthcare to address aging population

Vietnam is addressing the challenges of a rapidly aging population through advancements in medical technology and specialized healthcare training. The Pharmedi Vietnam 2026 international exhibition opened in Ho Chi Minh City, focusing on rehabilitation solutions and elderly care technologies to promote healthy aging.

According to World Health Organization data, the proportion of people aged 60 and over in the ASEAN region is projected to rise from 12.2% in 2024 to 22.9% by 2050. This demographic shift is driving a transition in the Vietnamese healthcare system from reactive disease treatment to proactive prevention and long-term health management.

In support of this shift, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City has launched a specialized vaccine training program for postgraduate students. The multidisciplinary program aims to equip medical professionals with the skills to integrate preventive measures, such as adult vaccination, into clinical practice to better serve elderly populations and those with underlying health conditions.
