Vietnam social media users face fines for data disclosure

Social media users on platforms such as Facebook and Zalo face significant legal risks for unauthorized disclosure of personal information. Under current regulations, posting ‘exposé’ content that includes another person's images, phone numbers, private messages, or identification details can lead to severe penalties.

According to Decree 330/2026/NĐ-CP, individuals who illegally disclose personal data may be fined between 15 and 25 million VND, while organizations may face fines ranging from 30 to 50 million VND. Violators may also be compelled to remove the public data. In serious cases, such actions can result in criminal liability.

Legal experts note that while users often view social media as a personal space to resolve disputes or seek justice, the law imposes strict limits on using the images, honor, and personal data of others without consent.
