Vietnam Social Security warns of fraudulent VssID app scams
Vietnam Social Security has issued a warning regarding fraudulent schemes targeting citizens with health insurance and social security services. Scammers are impersonating social security officials or police officers to deceive individuals into installing fake versions of the VssID application.
According to reports from Nghe An Social Security and the Can Tho City Police, criminals often contact victims via phone, claiming they are eligible for health insurance refunds or that their electronic identification profiles contain errors. These individuals pressure victims to resolve issues immediately by adding them on Zalo and sending links to counterfeit public service portals or .apk files.
Once victims install these malicious files and grant accessibility permissions, particularly on Android devices, the software can take full control of the phone. This allows criminals to monitor screen activity, steal personal information, and access bank accounts to siphon funds.
