Vietnam Social Security warns of impersonation and phishing scams

Vietnam Social Security and local police have issued warnings regarding fraudulent schemes targeting citizens through impersonation. Scammers are reportedly using unauthorized websites and social media accounts that feature the official Vietnam Social Security logo to offer fake consultation services. These fraudulent channels often use unfamiliar phone numbers to charge unusually high call fees.

In An Giang province, authorities highlighted a specific tactic where criminals pose as social security employees. These individuals contact citizens via phone or social media, claiming that personal identification numbers must be updated to replace social security codes—a policy change scheduled for September 2026. Scammers direct victims to click suspicious links that mimic the official VssID application interface. Once users log in, attackers can seize control of their mobile devices and drain bank accounts.

Vietnam Social Security emphasizes that its only official customer service hotline is 1900.9068. The agency advises the public not to click on unknown links, provide OTP codes, passwords, or facial recognition data to strangers, and to verify all information through official channels.
