Vietnam speeds up road repairs and expands ferry services to ease traffic congestion

The Dong Nai provincial government is accelerating repairs on the 4 km Lò Gạch–Cầu Nước Trong road that links QL51 to the Long Đức industrial zone. The project, led by the An Phước commune and built by Nhân Tâm Construction, aims to replace damaged pavement, improve drainage and lighting, and restore safe travel for the roughly 30,000 daily workers, experts and freight vehicles that use the route. Completion is targeted within 60 days to support the high‑volume container and truck traffic serving many foreign‑direct‑investment firms in the zone.

In Ho Chi Minh City, rising congestion on the Hanoi‑Saigon Expressway and the Long Thanh‑Dầu Giây highway, combined with a summer travel surge, has prompted a shift to river ferries at Cát Lái and Bình Khánh. Ferry operators report a 30 % increase in vehicle traffic during the holiday period, handling up to 20‑ton trucks. Daily vehicle counts have risen to about 1,500–2,500 at Cát Lái and 2,400–3,400 at Bình Khánh, with additional measures such as lane sharing for cars and motorcycles, ticket pricing adjustments, and coordinated traffic policing to reduce wait times.
