Vietnam Starts Compensation for Hanoi-Quang Ninh High-Speed Rail
The local government of Uông Bí ward in Quảng Ninh province paid 4.8 billion VND to the first 15 households affected by the Hanoi‑Quang Ninh high‑speed rail project. This initial disbursement covers about 0.99 ha of land and marks the start of a broader compensation, support and resettlement program for the 260 affected cases (257 households and 3 organisations) along the line.
The rail line, led by VinSpeed – a Vingroup subsidiary – is valued at more than 147 trillion VND (over US$5.6 billion) and will cut travel time between Hanoi and Quảng Ninh. The project, launched on 12 April 2026, will acquire roughly 31.5 ha of land, including residential, agricultural and forest areas, with plans to relocate about 75 households. The compensation round is intended to accelerate land‑clearing and keep the project on schedule.
