Vietnam financial markets show volatility amid currency and stock shifts

Financial markets in Vietnam and abroad are experiencing volatility. The Japanese Yen has been trading around 158 JPY/USD as the Bank of Japan signals potential monetary tightening, with Governor Kazuo Ueda noting that core inflation is approaching the 2% target.

In Vietnam, the State Bank's central exchange rate for USD decreased slightly to 25,633 VND/USD. The USD Index (DXY) has faced downward pressure due to shifting expectations regarding Federal Reserve interest rate policies, though persistent inflation concerns remain a factor.

The Vietnamese stock market, specifically the VN-Index, is showing signs of a technical recovery after a four-week decline, recently reclaiming the 1,700-point mark. However, experts remain cautious, noting that high domestic interest rates, foreign investor net selling, and low liquidity suggest this may only be a temporary rebound rather than a confirmed trend reversal.

In the banking sector, several institutions reported strong nine-month results for 2026. VPBank recorded a consolidated pre-tax profit of nearly 30,000 billion VND, while ABBank estimated a profit of 4,540 billion VND, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year.
