Vietnam strengthens national security in cyberspace

Vietnam is intensifying its efforts to strengthen national security within the digital realm, focusing on digital sovereignty, cybersecurity, and data protection. As the nation undergoes digital transformation, the government views cyberspace as essential infrastructure for the economy and society, while treating data as a strategic resource.

Lieutenant General Le Xuan Minh of the Ministry of Public Security noted that the rapid development of cyberspace presents new risks, including sophisticated cyberattacks increasingly powered by artificial intelligence. The digital landscape is described as a “gray zone” of strategic competition involving espionage, information warfare, and digital manipulation through social media algorithms.

To address these challenges, Vietnam is prioritizing the perfection of its legal and institutional frameworks. Strategic focus areas include managing technological dependencies related to emerging technologies such as quantum computing, 5G/6G networks, satellite internet, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
