Vietnam targets $100 billion agro‑forestry‑fishery exports by 2027

Vietnam has set an ambitious goal of reaching US$100 billion in agro‑forestry‑fishery exports by 2027, up from roughly US$70 billion in 2025. Experts at a July 9, 2026 forum in Hanoi said achieving the target would require around 30 % annual growth, an expansion of export containers from 1.5 million to 2.5 million, and a shift from volume‑based production to higher‑value processing.

Key challenges identified include labor shortages in processing, limited financing for scaling up, rising logistics costs, stricter international quality and sustainability standards, and climate‑related risks to crops and aquaculture. Speakers urged a “500‑day action programme” led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the creation of commodity councils to coordinate producers, processors and exporters, and major digital‑traceability upgrades.

Proposed solutions focus on deep‑processing to add value, adoption of Agriculture 4.0 technologies (IoT, AI, drones), more flexible credit policies, and stronger use of free‑trade agreements such as CPTPP and EVFTA. If reforms are implemented, the target is deemed feasible, though it will demand a new growth model that integrates the entire value chain rather than merely increasing output.
