Vietnam targets new economic growth model through 2030
Vietnam is shifting its economic strategy toward a new growth model aimed at achieving double-digit growth between 2026 and 2030. A national scientific workshop organized by the Institute of Financial Strategy and Policy under the Ministry of Finance focused on restructuring the economy through science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
While the 2021–2025 period saw significant GDP growth and exceeded many socio-economic targets, structural limitations remain. These include a heavy reliance on foreign direct investment (FDI) for production and exports, as well as limited integration of domestic enterprises into global value chains. To address these bottlenecks, experts suggest moving away from single-policy solutions toward a synchronized ecosystem of strategic pillars.
In regions like Thái Nguyên, this shift involves transitioning from merely attracting FDI volume to creating high-value industrial ecosystems. Following recent political resolutions, the focus is moving from input-based incentives to result-based incentives, prioritizing technology transfer, green transformation, and the development of domestic supporting industries to ensure international capital creates a broader economic ripple effect.
