Vietnam targets strategic technology products by late 2026

Vietnam is advancing its strategic technology development with 28 proposed tasks across various ministries, involving an estimated total budget of 5,300 billion VND. During a meeting on August 26, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung emphasized the need for more decisive implementation to ensure that strategic technology products are available by the end of 2026.

Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan reported that 27 of the 28 tasks have undergone appraisal. Nine tasks from the Ministries of Health, Construction, Industry and Trade, and Science and Technology have been deemed eligible for approval. While the legal framework is being established, officials noted that the approval process has been slow, with no tasks officially approved as of August 24.

Localities have also contributed to the initiative, with 15 regions submitting 85 ideas for strategic tasks. These proposals focus on high-tech sectors including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), artificial intelligence, digital twins, blockchain, cell technology, personalized medicine, gene technology, and biotechnology.
