Vietnam tax authorities warn of exit bans for tax debtors

Tax authorities in Vietnam have issued warnings regarding potential exit bans for individuals with significant outstanding tax debts. Business individuals and household owners may face travel restrictions if their tax debt reaches 50 million VND and is overdue by 120 days. For legal representatives and beneficial owners of enterprises or cooperatives, the threshold for an exit ban is a debt of 500 million VND overdue by 120 days.

Additionally, taxpayers who are no longer operating at their registered addresses face specific penalties. If a taxpayer fails to restore or terminate their tax code within 90 to 120 days of receiving a notice, tax authorities will proceed with exit ban notifications.

Separately, the Hanoi Tax Department has announced the deadline for 2026 non-agricultural land use tax payments. For households and individuals, the annual payment deadline has been moved to November 2, 2026, due to the original October 31 deadline falling on a Saturday. Taxpayers are encouraged to use the eTax Mobile application to manage their obligations.
