Vietnam Tax Authority urges taxpayers to finalize registration to avoid legal risk
The General Department of Taxation has issued a nationwide notice urging business owners, household enterprises and individuals to complete all tax obligations and formally terminate their tax registration when ceasing operations. Failure to do so may generate additional tax liabilities, legal penalties and affect taxpayers' legal rights.
The agency launched a "Clean Tax Code – Remove Business Obstacles" campaign to audit and standardise tax identification data, verify the operational status of taxpayers, and assist in restoring or cancelling tax codes. It also warned of fraud where personal identities are misused to create fictitious companies and exploit electronic invoicing. Taxpayers are urged to check their information on the national business registration portal, report any misuse of personal data to the tax authority, business registration office and police, and cooperate with tax officials to provide required documents.
An upcoming feature on the eTax Mobile app will allow users to easily query their tax code status and detect potential identity fraud.
