Tuyên Quang math score scandal prompts nationwide exam review

In July 2026 an unusually high concentration of perfect 10‑point math scores was recorded at the Tuyên Quang Specialized High School – 146 of 328 examinees at the school earned a 10, and the province reported 154 perfect scores overall. The result triggered a police investigation; teacher Nguyễn Hà Duy, the school’s math instructor, was placed under emergency detention on suspicion of influencing the scores. The Ministry of Education and Training created a task force with the Ministry of Public Security to audit the exam process. Initial checks found no irregularities in printing, transport, or grading of the test papers, but the data analysis indicated abnormal patterns that required further verification. Vice‑Premier Lê Tiến Châu ordered a comprehensive review of all 2026 high‑school graduation exam results across Vietnam, directing the ministries to audit exam organization, staff conduct, and to prosecute any violations. Authorities continue to examine proctoring procedures, candidate records and the role of school officials while awaiting final conclusions.
