Vietnam tilapia exports to CPTPP markets rise 51%
Vietnam's tilapia exports to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) bloc grew by 51% during the first nine months of 2026, reaching a total value of $7 million. While this represents a significant growth rate, the CPTPP market currently accounts for only approximately 7% of Vietnam's total tilapia export turnover, with major markets like Brazil (47%) and the United States (24%) still dominating.
Growth within the CPTPP bloc was driven largely by Japan and Mexico. Japan recorded $2 million in imports, a 74% increase compared to the same period last year, with a massive 133% surge in the third quarter. This spike follows a July milestone where Vietnamese tilapia was approved for use as raw material in sushi and sashimi processing, a segment requiring stringent food safety and quality standards. Mexico also reached $2 million in turnover, marking a 282% increase.
