Vietnam's Ministry of Home Affairs proposes 7‑ or 10‑day Tet 2027 holiday and a 4‑day Culture Day break

The Ministry of Home Affairs has drafted two options for the 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday for civil servants and public‑sector employees. Option 1 provides a 7‑day continuous break from Thursday 4 February to Wednesday 10 February 2027, comprising five official Tet days plus two make‑up days for weekend holidays. Option 2 extends the break to 10 days, from Friday 5 February to Sunday 14 February, adding a work‑day swap and additional weekend days. The ministry recommends the 7‑day schedule, citing reduced traffic pressure and more travel time for workers from distant regions.

In parallel, the ministry is seeking feedback on a proposal for Vietnamese Culture Day on 24 November 2026. The preferred plan swaps the preceding Monday (23 Nov) for a Saturday (28 Nov) to create a four‑day continuous holiday from Saturday 21 Nov to Tuesday 24 Nov. The Culture Day would become a paid public holiday, raising the total annual paid holidays to twelve days. The draft also calls for publishing the full annual holiday calendar before 30 September of the preceding year.

The proposals are being circulated to 13 ministries and agencies for comment before final submission to the Prime Minister and the National Assembly.
