Vietnam accelerates expressway development and toll collection

Vietnam is undergoing significant developments in its national expressway network. As of August 14, 2026, toll collection has officially commenced on five component projects of the North-South Expressway East phase, spanning from Quang Ngai to Nha Trang. These projects include the segments of Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh, Chi Thanh - Van Phong, and Van Phong - Nha Trang.

To ensure safety and efficiency, the Vietnam Road Administration has directed the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) to conduct a comprehensive review of traffic organization on the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Noi Bai - Lao Cai, and Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressways. This review focuses on speed limits, lane organization, and signage to address existing inadequacies and improve throughput.

In the southern regions, the government has issued directives to accelerate the progress of 10 major expressway projects in the Southeast and Southwest. While many projects are progressing well, some, such as the Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh and Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh routes, are facing delays. Additionally, efforts are underway to complete 36 service rest stops along the North-South Expressway, with seven already operational.
